2008 Gainesville Woman of Distinction

Emily "Sissy" Dunlap Lawson, was honored as the 2008 Gainesville Woman of Distinction. Growing up, she was a Girl Scout herself, and her love of the community stayed with her as she grew up. As an adult, she has founded many organizations, served on multiple boards and become known for her philanthropic efforts.


2007 Gainesville Woman of Distinction
Juanita Adams, the 2007 Gainesville Woman of Distinction honoree, has been instrumental in giving to her community on a daily basis. Her work as a volunteer at the First Baptist Church teaching Citizenship and English as a Second Language classes has helped hundreds become American citizens. The many awards she's received illustrate what a profound impact she has had.

Katherine Williams
was honored as the 2004 Gainesville Woman of Distinction for her outstanding service to the community and for exemplifying the qualities of a positive female role model for young women.
2003 Gainesville Woman of Distinction
Nell Wiegand
was chosen as the Girl Scouts of Northeast Georgia's 2003 Gainesville Woman of Distinction for her outstanding achievements and a lifetime of service to her community.
2002 Gainesville Woman of Distinction
Frances Meadows
was honored as the 2002 Gainesville Woman of Distinction for her outstanding service to her community and for exemplifying the qualities of a role model for young women.
2001 Gainesville Woman of Distinction
Lessie B. Smithgall
was chosen as the 2001 Gainesville Woman of Distinction because of her contributions to her community, her leadership, positive affiliations, being a role model to girls and women and by embodying the Girl Scout Promise and Law.
2000 Gainesville Woman of Distinction
Dorothy Rucker
was honored as the 2000 Gainesville Woman of Distinction because of her contributions to her community, her leadership, positive affiliations, being a role model to girls and women and by embodying the Girl Scout Promise and Law.
1999 Gainesville Woman of Distinction
Jane Eve Wilheit
was chosen as the 1999 Gainesville Woman of Distinction because of her dedication to the Gainesville/Hall County community.
