So
much of what our adult volunteers do is directly tied in
with the girls. Therefore, Council policy and safety standards
require most volunteers to be properly trained for their
specific position.
Since
Troop leaders have the most direct and constant contact
with girls, the training requirements are vital. Leaders
must complete Orientation and Leadership Training in order
to be better equipped to deliver the Girl Scout program.
After completing this first series of training, they then
complete the appropriate Age-Level training.
Training
must be completed within three months from the time of appointment
to volunteer position. All leaders must update their Age
Level Training as they change program age levels and update
their training every two years either through leadership,
age level or enrichment training (i.e. First Aid, BOS etc.)
Every
troop is required to have one adult certified first aider
for events and one certified troop camper for camping.
Other
positions such as Event Director, Cookie Chair, Day Camp
Director and Service Team are more specialized and may require
specialized training. These trainings are listed each month
in the Council newsletter Gazette and here, online. For
more information, or to get current training opportunities,
contact the Training
Department in the Athens office.
These
extra trainings are listed each month in the Gazette.
You may also call the Athens Office at (706) 548-7297 or
(800) 300-4475 for information. All
training is FREE except where indicated.
Because
of the geographic size of the council, trainings are spread
out to best accommodate those areas which need training,
ranging from the mountain region, to the Gainesville and
Cumming area, down to Greene and Clarke counties.
Additional
Adult Development courses are offered for virtually every
volunteer position. Please check with the council for further
details regarding specialized courses. And
remember! Check the sidebar for a full listing of trainings
the council is offering right now!
Your Service
Unit can also host trainings now, so make sure to check
that page as well!
